About Julie

I first started painting in timeout.

It had been post temper tantrum (over what, I don’t know) and I was dealing with the consequences of my actions. Locked up in the room my sister and I shared, I decided to spitefully use the art kit my sister kept hidden under her bed. I remember vindictively unlatching the large blue case, revealing a Pandora’s box of color, pigment, and possibility.

Ironically, being locked up unlocked a passion and peaceful escape (thank you Mom and Dad). I remember dipping brushes into dripping paint wells, scrawling new worlds across empty pages, creating and capturing moments of color and light, pouring my mind across an open and blank slate. Truthfully, that first picture probably didn’t look that good. But, boy, am I thankful for that dusty old art kit and that timeout.

From there on out, I was hooked. It started small - cards for my parents, doodles during school, YouTube art tutorials on the weekends. However, my passion took root, color theory started to make more sense, and now the dream is to forever capture the wonder and possibility of life and its mundane with a little bit of color and whimsy. Thanks for joining me!

Why “Little Pine Hut?”

My maiden name is “Koyamatsu.”

In Japanese, this means “Little Pine Hut.”

Growing up, my childhood home was one of wonder, fun, giggles, growth, magic, and kindness. My hope is that any art I produce conveys these elements and emotions. If I could, I would bottle that time up with my family and keep it in my pocket forever. Unfortunately, growing up happens. Luckily, I’m eager to capture those fleeting moments now, eager to indulge in them, cherish them, enjoy them, soak them up, and paint them on a canvas.
